Gloria Sampson graduated with distinction from the California College of Art in Oakland. Art was the focal point in her life and source of her livelihood for many years, both as a fine artist and as an interior designer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her plein art watercolors and pen and ink drawings of Victorian architecture became her trademark and were shown extensively in the Bay Area. Her work was also selected for two yearly exhibits at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, where they won awards both times.
She is the author of 40 sketchbooks/journals form her travels around the world. Three of the books have been published. One of them, entitled "Historic Churches and Temples of Georgia--A Book of Watercolors and Drawings", was published by Mercer University Press. In 2015 she donated 100 of the original paintings from the book to the Schwob Library archives at Columbus State University. She also shares her work about her books by lecturing to diverse groups of people interested in art.
Her paintings have been purchased by numerous individuals, as well as by corporations, including the Bradley Company, the Columbus Museum, Coca Cola, Dean Day Smith, Knight Ridder Newspapers, Mead Paper Company, and Pratt and Whitney.
In 2018, she was the featured artist in the September/October issue of Southwest Georgia Living Magazine. As a member of several art associations, including the National League of American Pen Women, she has had her work exhibited for many years in their national shows.
One of her main goals in life is to paint every day.
