Prior to retirement, Amy Patterson considered herself primarily a ceramic artist.  She has a love affair with texture which was easily transferred into the clay.  After 30 years of teaching art, her interests focused more on oil painting due to her Master’s Degree thesis.  Her paintings began as an exploration of the variety of conditions in the atmosphere.

From that point, Mrs. Patterson concentrated not only on sky, but on the reflections of the sky in bodies of water, and of objects surrounding bodies of water.  The subject matter of her earliest post-retirement paintings continued the landscape theme while combining her own style of intense color with her new- found love for the texture created by a palette knife.

Mrs. Patterson’s paintings have received numerous awards and have been shown in the Alabama Watercolor Society Exhibit, Georgia Art Education Association Members Exhibits, the Georgia Art Education Association Governor’s Exhibit, University of West Georgia Graduate and Alumni Exhibits, Columbus Artists’ Guild Members Exhibitions, the Georgia National Fair, National League of American Pen Women Biennial Exhibits in Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC, the Bank of America on Peachtree in Atlanta, and Site 109 Gallery in New York.
